Pay It Forward - Amelia's First Contest

I like contests, I like winning things. I would like to win the Powerball, but you know, odds and such. I've won 3 so far, two from Celebrity Baby Blog, and one from A Mommy Story. All of this winning has actually, serious and stuff, made me want to give stuff away myself. I really like giving stuff. I just haven't known how...

Enter one of my favorite blogs, The New Girl. (found her originally thanks to a link to this post, made me laugh so hard I nearly peed my pants) She's having her first contest, and its a cool concept from someone named Swistle. Pay It Foward - Have a contest and the person who wins then has a contest and so on and so forth.

So, here it is, my contest. Must enter by July 4th, 2008. (counting Central US time and all) Entry done by leaving a comment. Winner picked by random number generation. (yeah, geek) You don't have to write anything other than you know, something, but if you want an idea, here it is:

What is/was your favorite children's book. Both for you doing the reading and being read to. (what, I need help both finding stuff for us, and writing for Savvy)
Mine, The Bear Snores On. Totally fun to read, and holds attention pretty well.

Oh, stuff? You want to know what the prize is? Well, I've been collecting some neat stuff while venturing out for my work at Savvy. Didn't know what I wanted to do with it, but couldn't leave these great shops empty handed. Included, but not limited to:

An Under the Nile organic toy from Wonderment
A book (or two) from Wild Rumpus
A toy, hand knit and felted by yours truly
A wild sock monkey, hand made by yours truly
A jar of local, single source honey from Ames Farm

I love me a contest, too. And I would LOVE a wild sock monkey! That sounds like so much fun!

One of my favorite books is "I'm coming to get you". I love to read it to my kids.

My very favorite is Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom.

But Cuorduroy is pretty rocking, too!

We are loving Eloise, I didn't find her until I was an adult. I would have loved her as a child though.

I love "The Gruffalo".

I really liked "Stone Soup" as a kid. And "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs."

We're fans of the Charlie and Lola books by Lauren Child at the moment. Our little one likes the "That's Not My __" books by Fiona Watt.

"Where the Wild Things Are" will never get boring, and I know it by heart.

All of those possible prizes sound great!

I liked "Tickly Under There" and "Can I Have A Hug?" by Debi Gliori. Short books and I did actions with them.

My daughter made me read "Moo Baa La La La" 3940 times when she was 2.

I have a library degree specializing in children's services and have many many MANY favorite books, but my (2 year old) son's favorite is Where the Wild Things Are

Fox in Socks is my daughter's favorite right now. It's a hard one to read aloud, tho!

Hmmm, that's hard. I guess I liked to read this story about a boy who planted a carrot. I'm not sure what it was called - probably "Carrot" or something.

I am currently reading to my baby daughter a Mother Goose nursey rhyme book.

Go, Dog, Go!
And in recent re-readings, I find it's just super for those budding readers because it gets harder with more words, but it builds on a theme, so it's not too frustrating.

Yes Yes, No, No (because you get to make up most of the words!)

I really liked "Where the wild things are" as a child and the other day I bought the "Diary of a Worm" which was adorable!

I love all the Eric Carl books, not sure if I'm spelling his name right.

They're all good - but I hate "The Runaway Bunny." The baby bunny is a brat.

Wow, look at all the entries! I grew up reading The Velveteen Rabbit, and The Very Pokey Puppy. Those were probably my two favorites.

My girls always read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Goodnight Moon.

And I'd love a handmade toy by you, or local honey. Maybe we could do a honey exchange - my mom raises bees and has her own honey, too.

My favorite book was Charlotte's Web. I still have the same copy I had as a kid.

My two favorite books when I was little were The Little Princess and Anne of Green Gables.

My son is just a year old and his favorite book is The Snail and the Whale. Oh and Moo Baa La La La.
